FAQ      FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

this section is for you if you intend to purchase and own property in thailand. every question which may come up is explained in detail. please note however that laws sometimes change very fast in thailand, and the law and the policy how to apply it are two different things. where there is a will there is a way, and to know policies is as important as the knowledge of the law. when it comes to a purchase we may, depending on the case, suggest to involve a lawyer.

ABOUT KHANOM AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

on our page about khanom you find our personal reflections about khanom. below you find mainly facts which may interest you if you stay longer as well as what to do and where to go. one  thing i would like to mention very clearly which you find nowhere else: all beaches in khanom often have jellyfish and black flies (also called white flies or sand flies), which can have pretty an impact on your beach experience - so better be aware of it. both jellyfish and black flies depend on weather, moon and i don't know what - they may be here or may not.

KHANOM TOWN: from the market to the pink dolphins - here is what you need to know about the small town.

THE SURROUNDINGS: what to do and where to go.

HAT KHANOM NATIONAL PARK: the local nationalpark. the website is also a good entrance to other nationalparks in the area as well as in the rest of thailand.

SIE KHIET NATIONAL PARK: very nice recreation area near sichon. if you don't mind to be charged 5 times the entry fee that locals pay go and enjoy, otherwise simply boycott it.

ACCOMMODATION

there are plenty of simple hotels and bungalow resorts, mainly targeting thai weekend tourists. these places are cheap, often clean and usually vacant, except on weekends when thai people from the surrounding provinces come to party. then they tend to be full and very noisy, with very loud karaoke outside until early morning. thailand pure.

if you require a certain standard and like it quiet then follow the links below. there are a few new resorts which are not really ready yet or we have not tested them personally, and therefore don't recommend them yet, like the almost finished aava resort next door to our office. but a great number of resorts are under construction and soon there will be more resorts than guests.

SMALL SINGLE HOUSE near our office: german owner. clean and nice, western standard, on a big property with 20 meters beach front on khanom beach. only 1'000 baht per night.

SEA BREEZE HOUSE: swiss owner. 2 appartments for just 800 baht per night in a single house. in nai plao beach, very private and beautiful beach. often fully booked by repeat guests.

KHANOM HILL RESORT: german owner. charming resort with different styles of bungalows and appartments between 2'800 and 3'600 baht per night. beautiful view at nai plao beach.

RACHA KIRI: so far the only 5 star resort in the area which can compete with the high class hotels in phuket or samui. very beautiful. 3'550 to 7'550 baht per night, internet rate. walk in
is more than the double price, so better book ahead. a very small private beach but nice swimming pool and stunning view. every room has a balcony to the beach.

WEATHER

all kind of forecasts as well as overviews. please note though that the weather is extremely local, which means different even from one beach to the other, or from the beach to town. na dan beach has less rain than other areas (because there are no mountains in the back), so often forecasts are wrong but still a good indicator. the peak of the raining season is officially in november and december, also the time with the strongest winds (good for surfers, bad for swimmers). however, last november it did not rain at all and was very pleasant, but still a lot of rain and strong wind in january - so you never know, as next year it may be the other way round. between end of october and end of january swimming in the beach is limited due to heavy winds and a rough sea and also the beach is quite narrow - can be as little as one or two meters wide, compared to up to 50 meters in the quiet season. as locals we enjoy all seasons all year round - even the raining season, as it is very green then and never cold - hardly ever below 20 degrees at night and less than 26 during the day.

ACCUWEATHER: a great 15 day weather forecast. has all information you are looking fore. also a good start for other sites around the weather. our favorite.

ACCUWEATHER 2: same as above but only for 1 day but with more details.

WUNDERGROUND: a good forecast site with the speciality that it comes automatically in your language - although sometimes with strange translations. good graphics.

WINDGURU: great site which is actually for surfers, but since there is all kinds of information interesting for everybody. not available for khanom - but closest station is in sichon.

CURRENCY and other CONVERTERS

plenty of currency converters on the web. the two below are our favorites.

BANGKOK BANK: extremely simple and fast currency converter. opens in a new small window you can move and keep it open beside other sites or applications. very convenient.

OANDA: currency converter with lots of possibilities, good graphcs and fast.

CONVERT-ME.COM: a mass converter which converts almost everything: mass, distance, area, temperature etc., including all thai measurments.

OUR OWN WEBSITES

the websites below are all somehow related to our company.

THE SOURCE THAILAND: the first real eco valley in thailand - containing organic farming, a health resort with clinic, schools and much more - to be realized in khanom province.

DELLA PIETRA CONSULTING: our sister company, specialized in high end hospitality concepts and consulting (website coming soon).

GIORGIODELLAPIETRA.COM: the driving force behind all projects in this chapter.

PHUKET HOME MASSAGE: our previous company. we sold it because we moved away from phuket. we still have the rights on the name so the website and domain is for sale too.

HOMEMASSAGE.COM: not in use anymore, domain name for sale.

LAPIZZA.IN: a side project - we may open an italian restaurant in khanom but don't have the time now. therefore the domain name is for sale, even though we really love it...
